2. 指示代詞的用法注意點

(1) 若回指上文提到的事情，可用that或this，但要指下文敘述的事情時，則通常只用 this。如：

He married one of his students, and this [that] was known to us all. 他娶了他的一個學生，這是大家眾所周知的事。

Listen to this: the man is not a professor but a cheat. 大家聽著：這個人不是教授，是騙子。

(2) that和those后可接定語從句，其通常結構為 that which (=what), those who (=the people who)。如：

That which is beautiful is not always true. 美的東西未必真實。

Those who break the law should be punished. 違法者應該受到懲罰。

【說明】this和 these兩個指示代詞習慣上不接定語從句。

(3) this和that 可作程度副詞，相當于so，用來修飾形容詞或副詞。如：

Is the problem that easy? 問題有那么簡單嗎?

The fish I caught was this big. 我捕到的那條魚有這么大。

(4) 不要誤解類似以下句子的意思：

We’ve arranged to meet this day week. 我們安排好一星期后見面。
