動詞+介詞+it + that從句(例句引自詞典)

■按英語習慣，除極個別介詞(如but, except等)外，一般介詞后面是不能接that從句作賓語的，遇此情況通常應在介詞后先加the fact，然后再接that從句，這樣一來，the fact成了介詞賓語，而其后的that從句則成了the fact的同位語從句。如：

They were worried over the fact that you were sick. 他們為你生病發愁。

The judge paid a lot of attention to the fact that the child was unhappy at home. 法官非常注意這一情況，即孩子在家里并不快樂。

He said the parents were responsible for the fact that the child had run away. 他說孩子父母應對孩子逃跑一事負責。

In spite of the fact that she had three small children, he sent her to prison for six months. 盡管她有3個小小孩，他還是把她關進監獄6個月。

Were it not for the fact that you helped me, I would be homeless. 若非你的幫助，我仍會無家可歸。

His love of literature was due to the fact that his mother read poetry to him when he was a child. 他對文學的愛好是由于他母親從小就給他朗讀詩歌的緣故。

■但有幾個“動詞+介詞”結構比較特別，它們后面接that從句時，不是借助the fact，而是借助it——這類“動詞+介詞”結構主要有see to, look to, insist on, stick to, depend on, answer for等。如：

see to it that… 注意……；千萬要……；負責……

See to it that you’re not late again. 注意千萬不要再遲到。

Please see to it that the door is locked 請留意一下把門鎖好。

See to it that you’re ready on time! 到時候你千萬要準備好!

I’ll see to it that everything is ready in time. 我負責使這一切按時準備好。

Robert has seen to it that all the little leaks were shut off. 羅伯特已負責讓所有的小漏洞都堵上。

look to it that… 注意……

Look to it that this doesn’t happen again. 注意不要再發生這種事。

answer for it that… 保證……

I can’t answer for it that he will come. 我不能保證他會來。

depend on it that… 放心……

You may depend upon it that we shall never lose heart. 你放心我們絕不會灰心。

You can depend on it that she’ll always look after number one. 她總是關心自身的利益，對這一點可以打包票。

rely on it that... 放心……

You may rely on it that he’ll come to meet you. 你放心，他會來接你的。

You can rely upon it that it will rain this weekend. 你放心好了，本周末一定下雨。
