6. Say no more.

(1) 用于打斷對(duì)方的說(shuō)話以便插入自己的意見(jiàn)，意為：你別說(shuō)了。如：

Say no more! How much do you want to borrow? 別再說(shuō)了，你想借多少吧?

Say no more! When shall we start? 別再說(shuō)了，我們什么時(shí)候出發(fā)?

Say no more, I’ll go at once. 別說(shuō)了，我馬上就去。

(2)表示明白了對(duì)方的意思，意為：我明白了。如：

A：He came home with lipstick on his face. 他回家時(shí)臉上還帶著口紅印呢。

B：Say no more! 我明白了!

A：I saw him leaving her room at 10 in the morning.

我看到他上午10離開(kāi)他的房間。

B：Say no more. 我明白了，別再說(shuō)下去了。

7. That’s to say

表示對(duì)前面的話進(jìn)行解釋或說(shuō)明，意為：也就是說(shuō);換句話說(shuō)就是;更確切地說(shuō)。如：

He’s 15, that is to say, he’s very young. 他15歲,也就是說(shuō)，他很年輕。

They left two weeks ago, that’s to say, on July 5. 他們是兩周前離開(kāi)的，也就是說(shuō)是7月5日離開(kāi)的。

He didn’t go, that’s to say, it’s not recorded that he did. 他沒(méi)去，換句話說(shuō)，他去了這個(gè)事實(shí)無(wú)案可查。

I often wish I could read─that is, read easily. 我常常想，要是我能讀，也就是說(shuō)能流暢地讀，那就好了。

注：That’s (to say) 是習(xí)語(yǔ)，即使在過(guò)去時(shí)句子后，也不用 That was (to say)。

8. You can say that again.

表示同意或贊同，意為：你說(shuō)得很對(duì);你說(shuō)得完全對(duì);我同意你。如：

A：It is an interesting book. 這是本有趣的書(shū)。

B：You can say that again. I’ve never read such an interesting book before. 你說(shuō)得很對(duì)，我以前從未讀過(guò)這么有趣的書(shū)。

A：She was very beautiful. 她很美。

B：You can say that again. In fact she was Miss England 1978. 你說(shuō)得很對(duì)，事實(shí)上她是1978 年英格蘭小姐(即英格蘭選美冠軍)。

A：His wife is rather difficult to talk to, isn’t she? 他妻子是一個(gè)不太容易交談的人，是嗎?

B：You can say that again; she doesn’t seem to be interested in anything but her own affairs. 你說(shuō)得完全對(duì)，她似乎除自己的事外，對(duì)什么都不感興趣。

9. You don’t say (so).

表示驚奇或懷疑等，意為：是嗎? 真的嗎? 如：

A：She was graduated from college at sixteen. 她16歲就大學(xué)畢業(yè)了。

B：You don’t say. 真的嗎?

A：He’s going to get married. 他要結(jié)婚了。

B：You don’t say. He’s only 16 years old. 真的嗎? 他才16歲呀!

A：And how much do you get, Jim? 吉姆，你賺多少錢?

B：Two and a half a day. 每天兩塊半。

A：You don’t say. 不會(huì)吧。
