with后能接復(fù)合賓語的用法

with除表示“和”“與……一起”“具有”“帶有”等義外，還可表示原因或伴隨，意為“因為”“由于”“隨著”等。英語中只有它和它的反義詞without才能接復(fù)合賓語，即在其賓語后加上作賓補的形容詞、副詞或非謂語動詞等。如：

He often sleeps with the windows open. 他常開著窗睡覺。

He stood before his teacher with his head down. 他低著頭站在老師面前。

She said good-bye with tears in her eyes. 她含著眼淚說了聲再見。

He fell asleep with the lamp burning. 他沒熄燈就睡著了。

All the afternoon he worked with the door locked. 整個下午他都鎖著門在房里工作。

With so many people to help us, we are sure to finish it in time. 有這么多人幫忙，我們一定能按時完成。

注：with的反義詞without也有類似用法。如：

Without anyone to help, how can we go on? 沒有人幫忙，我們怎么能進行下去?

They debated for hours without a decision being taken. 他們爭論了幾個小時，也沒作出決定。

Without anyone noticing, he slipped through the window. 無人注意，他從窗戶溜了出去。
