town何時可以省略冠詞

■特指某座城鎮時，其前要用定冠詞。如：

The town lies among the mountains. 這座城鎮位于眾山之中。

All approaches to the town were blocked. 所有通向這座城市的道路都被封鎖了。

■在講到主語或說話人自己的城鎮時，town前面的the可以省略：

Mary has also gone to town. 瑪麗也進城了。

We go to town sometimes to buy clothes. 我們有時進城去買衣服。

We were in town last Monday. 上星期一我們在城里。

I returned to town by the midnight express train. 我坐午夜快車回到城里。

I’ve been down town all morning. 整個早上我都在城里（市中心區）。

I’m going into town to buy a dress. 我進城去買一件衣服。

■有時也可用冠詞：

After tea I wandered about the town. 吃過下午茶我在城里轉了轉。

Then they took a bus into the town. 于是他們搭公共汽車進城。
