三、辨析

1.aware, conscious, sensible

這些形容詞均含“意識到的”之意。

aware → 強調通過耳聞目睹或感覺而得到的信息，也指敏稅的觀察和推斷。側重感知，多與of一起用。

conscious → 指內心的感覺，強調深刻的心理活動。

sensible → 側重通過直覺或理性感覺意識到某物的存在。

2. aware, cognizant, conscious, sensible, awake, alert, watchful, vigilant

這些形容詞意為對某件事很留心或很注意。

(1) aware 意指通過自己直覺，如根據別人的態度或者依靠某種信息方式而得到的認識。例如：

I am aware that Congress has passed the legislation.我知道議會已經通過了立法。

(2) cognizant 是一個和aware相當的非常正式的詞。例如：

Our research indicates that the nation’s youth are cognizant of the law. (Jerry D. Jennings) 我們的調查表明全國的青年已有了法律意識。（杰里·D·詹寧斯)

(3) conscious 強調某種感知到或感覺到的認識。例如：

an importance ... of which even Americans are barely conscious (William Stanley Jevons) 一種甚至連美國人也幾乎沒有認識到的重要性（威廉姆·斯坦利·杰文斯)

(4) sensible 指通過感性知覺或通過直覺得到的認識。例如：

as much awake to the novelty of attention in that quarter as Elizabeth herself (Jane Austen) 在那一季對引人注意的新奇事物的感知象伊麗莎白自己一樣多（簡·奧斯汀)

(5) alert 強調認識及反應的快捷性。例如：

alert enough to spot the opportunity when it came. 當機會到來的時候充分認識到并攫住它

(6) watchful 和vigilant 指注意表面的或潛在的危險。例如：

keeping a vigilant eye on every building where a fire might start. 注意每一座可能發生火災的大樓。
