hurry up 的用法誤區

■誤區之一  hurry up不能用于否定句中　　

簡清國主編《建宏外研社英漢多功能詞典》(外語與教學研究出版社1997年1月第1版)p739：　　

hurry up [vi.] 趕快 (不用于否定句；常用于命令句)　　

Hurry up, or you’ll be late.　　

這種說法在我國英語界很是流行，然而卻是不正確的。在當前的英美語中hurry up用于否定句中真實事例并不少。請看例證：　　

先來看在美國英語中hurry up用于否定句中的真實事例：　　

在BUY CORPUS OF AMERICAN ENGLISH (1990-2009) (Mark Davies, Brigham Young University) http://www.americancorpus.org/上共有以下例句：　　

1994 If ya’ll don’t hurry up, I’m just going to go home and go to bed.　　

1994 …especially if Jackson doesn’t hurry up and clear me back to survey duty.　　

1996 I’m gon na be late if I don’t hurry up, Tio.　　

1996 …she’d drown in here if she didn’t hurry up and get out of this room.　　

1998 A woman says a friend who lent her $ 500 has threatened her if she does not hurry up and repay the loan.　　

2005 I’m so sorry I didn’t hurry up.　　

2006 So why don’t you just hurry up and do it?　　

2006 …, filling in the lines, so pretty soon, if I don’t hurry up, there won’t be a way in hell to help the Eagles win　　

再來看在英國英語中hurry up用于否定句中的真實事例：　　

在BNC(英國國家語料庫http://www.natcorp.ox.ac.uk)和 BUY-BNC BRTISH NATIONAL CORPUS (UK,1980s-1993) (Mark Davies, Brigham Young University)上共有以下例句：　　

KC8 …get myself something to wear if I don’t hurry up and if I don’t hurry up and get something.　　

CGE “Sarah, if you don’t hurry up I’ll have to get your father to get you out of there.”　　

從以上例證可以看出無論在美國英語中、還是在英國英語中，hurry up都可以用于否定句中。 　　

■誤區之二  hurry up不能用于肯定句中　　

《實用英語正誤詞典》(山東友誼出版社2002年8月第1版) p756：　　

【誤】We must hurry up. There is no time to waste.　　

【正】We must hurry. There is no time to waste.　　

實際上，這種說法也是沒有根據的，在當前的英美語中hurry up用于肯定句中的真實事例也確實存在。請看例證：　　

美國英語中，早在1927年就有hurry up用于肯定句中的真實事例。請看TIME CORPUS OF AMERICAN ENGLISH (1923-2006) (Mark Davies, Brigham Young University ) (http://corpus.byu.edu/time)上的例句：　　

must hurry up and read whatever it is that Dennis has sent her.　　

1941/12/29  “ I must hurry up, “ said he, “ because I’m living now on the velvet of my life.”　　

再看BUY CORPUS OF AMERICAN ENGLISH (1990-2009) (Mark Davies, Brigham Young University) http://www.americancorpus.org/上例句：　　

1990 If Manny knocked on the bathroom door and suggested that perhaps she should hurry up, Jennifer seemed to wilt into deeper uncertainty, making her late for classes.
