that day, this day, these days, those days 前是否用介詞的問題比較復雜，有時還與固定搭配有關(guān)，但對于初學者來說，掌握以下幾點會有所幫助：

■that day 的意思是“那天”，通常用作狀語，表示過去時間，其前通常不用介詞。如：

It was bitterly cold that day. 那天天氣很冷。

We weren’t in town that day. 那天我們不在城里。

Pure chance had brought us together that day. 我們那天相遇純屬偶然。

They met that day to discuss the plan. 那天他們開會討論這個計劃。

She was in gloves because it was rather cold that day. 她戴了手套是因為那一天相當寒冷。

■this day 的意思是“今天”（其前通常不用介詞），但這是很正式的用法，在普通情況下，尤其是口語中用得較少。如：

We have this day commissioned a memorial in the general’s honour. 今天我們已委托人為將軍樹碑。

在通常情況下，我們用 today 表示“今天”。如：

I have a number of important things to do today. 今天我有許多重要事情要做。

It won’t make much difference whether you go today or tomorrow. 你今天去也好，明天去也好，關(guān)系不大。

英語中有個習語 in this day and age，意思是“當今”，與 nowadays, these days 等同義。如：

Young people have a lot of freedom in this day and age. 如今年輕人很自由。

Why dress so formally in this day and age? 都這年月了怎么還穿那么正式？

注意某些習語的用法，如 to this day 表示“至今”“直到今天”。如：

Her secret remains untold to this day. 她的秘密至今仍未透露。

To this day, I still don’t know why she did it. 至今我仍不明白她為什么干那件事。

■these days 的意思是“近來”“如今”“現(xiàn)在”，其前習慣上不加介詞。如：

I rarely see her these days. 近來我很少見到她。

A pound doesn’t go far these days. 現(xiàn)今一英鎊不經(jīng)一用。

News travels quickly these days. 近來消息傳播得很快。

Jobs are hard to come by these days. 近來，很難找到工作。

I don’t have much time to read these days. 我這些日子沒什么時間讀書。

■those days 前通常要用介詞 in，短語 in those days 的意思是“那時”“當時”“那年頭”“那年月”等，in those days 在許多情況下與 at that time 意思相同。如：

We were poor in those days. 那時我們很窮。

Life was hard in those days. 在那些日子里，生活很苦。

I was still living with my parents in those days. 我那時還跟父母住在一起。

Only a small number of people went abroad in those days. 那時只有少數(shù)人出國。

It wasn’t quite the done thing for women to drink in pubs in those days. 那年月女的到酒店喝酒可不成體統(tǒng)。

注意：these days 與 in those days 雖然形式相近，但其中的一個習慣上要用介詞，而另一個則習慣上不用介詞，注意不要搞混淆了。
