形容詞 various與different的用法區別

1. different 表示“不同的”，指的可能是種類不同、不相像、不一樣、不是同一個等，強調“異”。如：

Mary and Jane are quite different. 瑪麗與簡大不一樣。

This book is different from that one. 這本書與那本書不一樣。

This is not what I want; I want a different one. 我要的不是這個，我要一個不同的。

2. various 表示“各種各樣的”“各不相同的”等，主要指彼此不同且種類繁多，強調“異”而“多”。如：

There are variousways of cooking an egg. 雞蛋有各種各樣的煮法。

There’s been snow today in various parts of the country. 今天全國各地都下了雪。

比較：

He gave various reasons (= a number of different reasons) for being late. 他為自己的遲到舉出了種種理由。

This time he gave different reasons (= not the same as last time) for his being late. 這次他為自己的遲到舉出了不同的理由。

注：由于 various 不僅強調“異”而且強調“多”，所以其后接的名詞通常用復數；而 different 強調的只是“異”而不是“多”，所以其后的名詞可以是單數或復數。
