discuss 的語法與搭配

1. 表示“討論”，是及物動詞，其后直接跟賓語，不要按漢語習慣在其后使用介詞 on, about 等。如：

我們將于明日午餐時討論這件事。

誤：We’ll discuss about [on] the matter during lunch tomorrow.

正：We’ll discuss the matter during lunch tomorrow.

另外，由于是及物動詞，所以不要漏掉其后該用的代詞。如：

我們星期四見——到時就可以商量一下了。

誤：See you on Thursday we’ll be able to discuss then.

正：See you on Thursday we’ll be able to discuss it then.

2. 其后接動詞時，用動名詞，不能用不定式。如：

They discussed selling the house. 他們商量過賣房子的事兒。

They will discuss giving further assistance to the oppressed peoples. 他們將討論給予被壓迫民族更多援助的問題。

有時動名詞前可以有自己的邏輯主語。如：

We’re here to discuss Ann’s joining the club. 我們這次碰頭是為了談談安入會的事兒。

注意，其后雖不接不定式，但可接“疑問詞+不定式”。比較：

We discussed when to go [when we should go]. 我們商量了甚么時候動身。

3. 其后可接 whether 引導的賓語從句，但一般不接 if引導的賓語從句。如：

They discussed whether they should leave there. 他們討論了是否應該離開那兒。
