chance后接不定式和動名詞有何區別

chance之后既可接不定式也可接動名詞，但有區別：

1. 表示碰巧做某事，其后接不定式。如：

The man chanced to be a doctor. 那男人碰巧是位醫生。

She chanced to speak fluent Spanish. 她偏巧很會說西班牙語。

She chanced to be in when he called. 他打電話時碰巧她在家。

I chanced to see your brother in the street. 我碰巧在街上看到你的弟弟。

2. 表示冒險做某事或冒著發生某事的危險，則后接動名詞。如：

I stayed hidden; I couldn’t chance coming out. 我還是躲藏，我不能冒險出去。

He chanced climbing the cliff without a safety belt. 他冒險不系安全帶去攀爬峭壁。

We’ll have to chance meeting an enemy patrol. 我們不得不冒著可能遇上敵人巡邏兵的危險。
