定冠詞的四種特指用法

表示特指是定冠詞的最基本用法，這里所說的“特指”至少有以下幾層意思：

1. 特指上文提到過的人或物。如：

We have a cat and two dogs. The cat is black and the dogs are white. 我們養了一只貓和兩只狗，貓是黑的，狗是白的。

A boy and a girl in my class fell in love. The boy toldthe girl that he wanted to see her parents. 我班上一個男孩和一個女孩戀愛了。那男孩告訴那女孩說他想要見見她父母。

2. 特指說話雙方都知道的人或物。如：

Open the door, please. 請把門打開。

Pass me the dictionary, please. 請把詞典遞給我。

3. 用于帶后置定語的名詞前，表示特定的人或物。如：

Pass me the magazine on the desk. 請把桌上的雜志遞給我。

The man who wrote the book is a friend of mine. 寫這本書的那個人是我的一個朋友。

比較：

We need the boy who knows French. 我們需要這個懂法語的男孩。(特指談到的某個懂法語的男孩)

We need a boy who knows French. 我們需要一個懂法語的男孩。(泛指任意一個懂法語的男孩)

4. 用于比較級前，特指兩個被比較的對象的一個。如：

Of the two brothers, the younger is more interesting. 在這兩兄弟中，年輕的這個更有趣。

There are two books on this subject, but I am not sure which is the better. 關于這個題目的書有兩本，但我不肯定哪一本更好。
