名詞 police的用法

police表示“警察”的總稱，含有“警方”“警察當(dāng)局”之意，其前通常用the（有時(shí)也可省略），形式上是單數(shù)，但含義上為復(fù)數(shù)；用作主語(yǔ)時(shí)，謂語(yǔ)要用復(fù)數(shù)。如：

The police in Britain don’t usually carry guns. 英國(guó)警察通常是不帶槍的。

The police have a clear case against the prisoner. 警方掌握了不利于該罪犯的確鑿事實(shí)。

Police are searching the area for clues to the murder. 警方正在搜查該地區(qū)以尋找謀殺案的線索。

表示“一個(gè)警察”時(shí)不能用它，即不說(shuō)a [one] police，而應(yīng)根據(jù)情況用a policeman / a policewoman；但表示多個(gè)警察時(shí)，可用它。如：

There were over 100 police on duty at the demonstration. 游行期間有100多名警察值勤。
