介詞的概念與分類

介詞又稱前置詞，是一種虛詞，不能單獨用作句子成分，通常用于名詞或代詞（以及相當于名詞的其他詞語）之前，表示其后詞語與句中其他詞語之間的關系。英語介詞從結構上看可以分為簡單介詞、雙重介詞和短語介詞三類。

1. 簡單介詞

所謂簡單介詞就是由一個單詞構成的介詞。它又分為普通介詞（at, by, by, for, in, over, to, up等）、合成介詞（onto, into, within, without等）、分詞介詞（concerning, considering, including等）三類。如：

The moon was low in the sky. 月亮低低地懸在天上。

It’s a long time since breakfast. 吃早飯到現在已有很長時間了。

You can’t get into the place without a pass. 沒有通行證你就進不去。

Everybody here has the influenza including myself. 包括我在內所有人都患上流感。

2. 雙重介詞

所謂雙重介詞就是指由兩個簡單的介詞重疊使用而構成的，如from behind, from among, since before, until after, except on等。如：

A man stepped out from behind the wall. 一個人從墻后走出來。

He cannot spare any time except on Sunday. 除星期日外，他抽不出時間。

I won’t go home until after the exam. 我要等考完后再回家。

He has known her since before the war. 自戰前開始他就認識她。

3. 短語介詞

所謂短語介詞就是指由兩個或兩個以上的次所組成的短語構成的。一般來說，這個短語的最后一個詞是簡單介詞，如in case of, according to, because of, by means of, in spite of, instead of, on behalf of, with reference to等。如：

I keep an umbrella here in case of rain. 我在這里放一把雨傘以防下雨。

But things do not go according to plan. 但事情并未按計劃進行。

Because of this we decided to leave early. 由于這個我們決定早些動身。

Thoughts are expressed by means of words. 思想是用詞匯表達的。

In spite of his efforts he failed. 他雖然做了努力，還是失敗了。
