more than 用法歸納

(1) 多于(其通常后接數詞，也可接其他詞)。如：

I’ve known him for more than twenty years. 我已認識他 20多年了。

Mary bas been ill for more than a week. 瑪麗已病了一個多星期了。

He spends more than he earns. 他花的比掙的多。

He paid more than the usual rate. 他比通常的價格付得多。

It was more than flesh and blood could bear. 這是血肉之軀無法忍受的。

The accounts show we have spent more than we received. 賬目顯示我們支出大于收入。

The series has attracted an audience of more than 10 million. 這個系列片吸引了1 000多萬觀眾收看。

(2) 不只是，不僅僅是(通常后接名詞、動詞、從句等)。如：

He is more than a father to her. 他待她勝過父親。

He more than smiled, but laughed. 他不只是微笑，而是放聲大笑。

The result was much more than I imagined. 結果遠遠超過我的想像。

Her work involved more than administration of first aid to the wounded. 她的工作不僅僅是對傷者的急救。

(3) 極其，非常(通常后接形容詞、副詞或分詞等)。如：

She was more than kind to us. 她對我們很友好。

He was more than upset by the accident. 這個意外事故使他非常心煩意亂。

(4) 難以，完全不能(其后通常連用情態動詞 can)。如：

That is more than I can tell(=I can’t tell that). 那事我實在不明白。

注：與動詞 like, love 等連用，還可表示”更“”更加“。如：

I like tennis more than I like football. 與足球相比，我更喜歡網球。
