■然而，中外的英語專家對“so”在“so+adj+n”結構中的用法卻持否定態度：　　

1. 葛傳槼教授在其編著的《英語慣用法詞典》(新修訂本)(時代出版社 1958年9月初版)p560上明確表示“so”不可以用于“so+adj+n”結構中：不可說“so beautiful gardens”和“so good poetry”，該把“so”改作“such”。　　　

2. 江希和在其編著的《當代英美語慣用法詞典》(上海外語教育出版社 2001年2月第1版)p637上說：a. +n.不能為so所修飾。下句應用such ，不用so：　　

I’ve never tasted such bad food.　　

3. 日本的綿貫陽等在其著的《現代英語語法例解手冊》(修訂版))(申勇譯 科學出版社2006年2月第1版)p323上說：<so+形容詞+a+名詞>是生硬說法，通常用<such+a+形容詞+名詞>。　　

It was so big a dog that she was afraid of it.　　

= It was such a big dog that she was afraid of it.(那只狗很大，她很害怕。)　　

﹡復數形式時不用so。　　

[誤] I’ve never seen so clever boys.　　

[正] I’ve never seen such clever boys.(我從未見過這么聰明的孩子。)　　

4. N D Turton and J B Heaton主編的Longman Dictionary of Common Errors(Eleventh impression 2003)p305：　　

×We were not prepared for so cold weather.　　

√We were not prepared for such cold weather.　　

A phrase that ends with a noun(“weather”) usually begins with such(NOT so): “We hadn’t expected such a warm welcome.” “You’re lucky to have such delightful children.”　　

5. A. J. Thomson and A. V. Martinet著《牛津實用英語語法》(第四版) 翻譯本(外語教學與研究出版社 1998年12月第1版) P602:　　

注意：“such+a+形容詞+名詞”可由“so+形容詞+a+名詞”來代替，所以“such a good man”可由“so good a man”來代替。這只能在名詞前面有a/an的情況下使用。(筆者注：這句話的意思是：such+a/an+形容詞+名詞=so+形容詞+a/an+名詞；但是可以說such+形容詞+名詞；不可以說﹡so+形容詞+名詞，也就是說“so”不可以用于“so+adj+n”結構中。)　　

6. Michael Swan著Practical English Usage (Third Edition 2005)p530: So is not used with adjective +noun.　　

I didn’t expect such terrible weather.(Not …so terrible weather.)　　

■鑒于此，筆者建議把“so+adj+n”結構中的“so”改為“such”，即“such+adj+n”。 這一結構是當前中學英語教師自己所接受的，也是中學生所熟知的，即such…that結構也可以分為以下幾種形式：　　

(1)such+a(an) +單數名詞+that從句；　　

(2) such+復數名詞+that從句；　　

(3) such+不可數名詞+that從句；　　

(4)such+形容詞+復數名詞+that從句；　　

(5)such+形容詞+不可數名詞+that從句；　　

(6)such+a(an) +形容詞+單數名詞+that從句。(筆者注：有時這四種結構也可單獨使用，即后面不接that從句)(張鑫友編著《英語相似詞語辨析詞典》華中師范大學出版社2004年5月第1版 p672)
