六、如何用英語表示約數(shù)

用英語表示約數(shù)時有以下方法值得注意：

1. 大于某數(shù)的表示法：可用 more than, over, or more等表示。如：

more than fifty people 五十多個人     

children of fourteen and over 十四歲和十四歲以上的少年

sixty students or more 六十或六十多個學(xué)生

2. 小于某數(shù)的表示法：可用less than, under, or less, up to, almost, nearly 等。如：

It cost me less than 10 pounds. 我買它沒要上10英鎊。

Children under six years old are admitted free. 未滿6歲的兒童可免費(fèi)入場。

It’s nearly [almost] 10 o’clock. 快10點(diǎn)了。

The temperature is five degrees below zero. 溫度是零下5度。

3. 大約數(shù)的表示法：可用or, or so, about, around, round, some, more or less 等表示。如：

I’ll come back in three or four days. 我過三四天就回來。

We stayed for an hour or so. 我們停留了一個小時左右。

It will cost around (round, about) 100 dollars. 那大概要100美元。

Some 100 people attended the meeting. 大約100人參加了會議。

I read more or less forty pages last night. 我昨晚看了大約40頁。

七、如何用英語表示加減乘除

1. 加法運(yùn)算的表示：常用and, plus, add 等表示。如：

Seven and [plus] eight is [are, make(s)] fifteen. 7加8等于15。

If you add ten to eight, you get eighteen. 10加8等于18。

2. 減法運(yùn)算的表示：通常用 minus, from, take away (from) 等表示。如：

Twelve minus two is [leaves, equals] ten. 12減10等于2。

5 from 20 leaves 15. 20減5余15。

If you take five from twelve, you’re left with seven. 12減去5得7。

If you take four away from ten, that leaves six. 10減去4得6。

3. 乘法運(yùn)算的表示：通常用 times, multiply, multiplied by, twice 等表示。如：

2 and 3 multiply to make 6. 2和3相乘得6。

2 multiplied by 4 makes 8. 2乘以4得8。

Five times three is [equals] fifteen. 5乘以3等于15。

What is twice two? 2乘2是多少?

4. 除法運(yùn)算的表示：通常用 divide, divided by, into 等表示。如：

Four into twelve is [makes] three. 12除以4等于3。

30 divided by 6 is [equals]月5. 30除以6等于5。

5 divides into 30 6 times. 用5除30等于6。

八、是1980s還是1980’s

兩者都可以，均用于表示世紀(jì)中的年代，其前通常要用定冠詞。如：

Investment in technology stocks exploded in the 1990s. 20世紀(jì)90年代對技術(shù)股的投資迅猛增長。

The band first came to the fore in the late 1990s. 這支樂隊(duì)20世紀(jì)90年代末開始嶄露頭角。

She’s been around as a film director since the 1960’s. 從六十年代起，她就一直是個很活躍的電影導(dǎo)演。

Many black people emigrated to Britain in the 1950’s. 在二十世紀(jì)五十年代許多黑人移民到英國。

注：若用于名詞前作定語，則根據(jù)所修飾的名詞的意義來決定其前是否用冠詞以及使用什么冠詞（參見下面一條）。

九、如何用英語表示“一兩個”

漢語說“一兩個……”，說成英語是a…or two或one or two…，但不能說成 one…or two或a or two…。如“一兩天”可說a day or two或one or two days，但不能說成 one day or two或a or two days。請看以下用例：

I’ll be able to finish it in a day or two. 在一兩天內(nèi)我會完成此事。

One or two days are enough to see the city. 要參觀這個城市一兩天就夠了。

In a week or two I’ll be among the unemployed. 再過一兩個星期我就要失業(yè)了。

I would like to use the computer for an hour or two. 我想用一兩個小時的電腦。

十、如何用英語表示“一個半”

表示“一個半”可用a…and a half或one and a half… 如：

One and a half months have passed.. 已經(jīng)過去了一個半月。

I finished the examination in an hour and a half. 我在一個半小時之內(nèi)考試完畢。

The journey from London to Oxford takes about an hour and a half. 從倫敦到牛津大約需要一個半小時。

注意“兩個半”“三個半”“四個半”等的表達(dá)。如：

The round trip was two dollars and a half. 來回票是兩塊半美金。

This happened four and a half centuries ago. 這是四個半世紀(jì)前發(fā)生的事。

十一、如何用英語表示“另外幾個”

漢語的“另外幾個”，說成英語可借助another, further, other, others, more 等詞語，但要注意它們與數(shù)詞搭配時的詞序，如“另加兩個星期”可說another two weeks, a further two weeks, two other weeks, two more weeks等。請看實(shí)例：

He has two other children. 他還有另外兩個孩子。

Three others lay wounded. 另外三個人受傷躺在那里。

Two other boys made off through the trees. 另外兩個小伙子從樹林間逃跑了。

While two detectives were keeping guard at the door, two others opened the parcel. 這時兩個偵探把著門，另外兩個打開包裹。
