◆dress n. & v.

1. 用作名詞，表示“衣服”，注意兩種用法：

(1) 用作可數名詞，主要指婦女穿的連衣裙或上下連身的女裝，也可指小孩穿的衣服，但不指男人穿的衣服。如：

She makes all her own dresses. 她的連衣裙都是自己做的。

She was wearing a beautiful dress. 她當時穿著一身漂亮的衣服。

(2) 用作不可數名詞，表示“衣服”的總稱(不論男女)。如：

He doesn’t care much about dress. 他不太注意衣著。

注：在現代英語中，dress 用作不可數名詞的用法已不常見。它主要用來指某些特殊種類的衣服(如禮服等)。如：evening dress(晚禮服)，full dress(大禮服)，national dress(民族服裝)，fancy dress(化裝服裝)等

2. 用作動詞，可以是不及物的，意為“穿衣”，也可以是及物的，意為“給……穿衣服”。用作及物動詞時，其賓語通常只能是人，而不能是衣服。如：

Wait a minute, I’m dressing. 等一下，我在穿衣．

She dressed her children well. 她給孩子們穿得很好。

用于 be dressed in, 意為“穿……”。如：

The lady was dressed in white. 這位女士身穿白衣。

另外，dress 還通常用于被動語態。如：

The girl was poorly dressed. 這女孩衣著寒酸。

He was dressed as a woman. 他男扮女裝。

◆drink n. & v.

1. 用作名詞，注意以下用法：

(1) 表示“飲料”，尤其是表示飲料的一種、一杯、一份、一口等時，通常是可數名詞。如：

I want a drink of water. 我想喝杯水。

He brought us two drinks. 他給我們端來了兩杯飲料。

We have plenty of bottled drinks. 我們有大量的瓶裝飲料。

Tea is a popular drink in this area. 茶是本地的大眾飲料。

注：有時也用作不可數名詞，泛指一般意義的“飲料”，尤其是用于 food and drink(飲食)這一搭配時。如：

Man must die without food and drink. 人無飲食必死。

There was lots of food and drink left over from theparty. 晚會過后剩下許多食物和飲料。

(2) 表示“飲酒”，通常是不可數名詞。如：

He is too fond of drink. 他太喜歡飲酒。

He is a good husband except when he is in drink. 他不喝酒時是個好丈夫。

若表示喝一次酒、一杯酒、一種酒等，則可用作可數名詞。如：

He became excited and talkative after two drinks. 兩杯酒一下肚，他變得興奮話多起來了。

2. 用作動詞，表示“喝”，主要用于直接用口(不是用匙子)喝飲料(如 water, milk, beer, coffee, tea 等)的場合。如：

Babies drink milk. 嬰兒喝牛奶。

Drink your coffee before it gets cold. 趁熱把咖啡喝了。

I didn’t say anything. I went on drinking my tea. 我什么也沒說，我繼續喝我的茶。

漢語里的“喝酒”，在通常情況下英語一般只用 drink即可，而不必說成 drink wine。如：

He doesn’t smoke or drink. 他不抽煙也不喝酒。

You may drink, but don’t let the drink overcome you. 酒你可以喝，但不要醉倒。

3. 動詞 drink 的過去式和過去分詞分別是 drank和 drunk。如：

He drank two bottles of beer. 他喝了兩瓶啤酒。

Someone has drunk my juice. 有人把我的果汁喝完了。

比較：drunk 與 drunken, 兩者都可用作形容詞，前者通常用作表語，后者通常用作定語。如：

He is blind [dead] drunk. 他已爛醉如泥。

There I met a drunken man. 在那兒我遇到一個醉漢。

The driver was fined for drunken driving. 這位司機因酒后開車而被罰款。
