2. 如果要加強喜歡的程度，不能用 very 修飾，而通常是用verymuch(其位置是放在 like 之前或 like 的賓語之后)。如：

我很喜歡這部電影。

正：I very much like this film.

正：I like this film very much.

誤：I very like this film. /I like very much this film.

　注：關于 like 的修飾語還有以下兩點須注意:

(1) much 也可修飾like, 但只限于否定句和疑問句，不用于肯定句(參見much):

誤：She likes him much. /She much likes him.

正：She doesn’t like him much. 她不怎么喜歡他。

正：Does she like him much? 她很喜歡他嗎?

(2) 有趣的是，deeply 可以修飾動詞 love, 但不能修飾 like。如：

誤：She likes her husband deeply.

正：She loves her husband deeply. 她深深地愛著她丈夫。

(3) 表示“更(最)喜歡……”這一意義時，一般用 like……better(best)。如：

A：Which do you like better, coffee or tea? 咖啡和茶，你 更喜歡哪種?

B：I like tea better than coffee. 比起咖啡來我更喜歡茶。

3. 在通常情況下(即除了一些固定表達外)，like 一般只用作及物動詞，所以在以下各句中 like 后的 it 通常不能省略(參見 it):

A：Do you like English? 你喜歡英語嗎?

B：Yes, I like it. (or Yes, I do). 喜歡。

She won’t like it if you arrive late. 她不喜歡人遲到。

I don’t like it when she tells me how to do things. 我不喜歡她對我做事指手劃腳。

注：有的詞典將 like it if (when)……. 作為一個句型看待。

◆likely adj. & adv.

1. 用作形容詞，意為“可能的”，注意以下同義句型：

很可能他今晚會給我打電話。

正：He’s very likely to ring me tonight.

正：It’s very likely that he’ll ring me tonight.

他不見得會來。

正：He is not likely to come.

正：It’s not likely (that) he will come.

2. 用作副詞，意為“可能”，通常與 most, very 連用。如：

They very likely won’t come. 他們很可能不會來了。

He has most likely lost his way. 他很可能是迷路了。

用于習語：as likely as not(很可能)；not likely(決不可能)等。如：

As likely as not he’s forgotten all about it. 很可能他把這事忘得一干二凈了。

A：Will you come to the theater? 去看戲嗎?

B：Not likely. 才不去呢。
