◆look v.

1. 表示“看”，通常不及物，若需后接賓語，應借助適當介詞。如：

Look at the blackboard. 看黑板。

We are looking for the keys. 我們在找鑰匙。

He stayed at home to look after his sister. 他留在家里照看妹妹。

注：look at 后有時可接復合賓語。如：

Look at the girl jump. 看看這個女孩跳。

We looked at the children playing football. 我們看孩子們踢足球。

2. 用作連系動詞，意為“看起來”、“好像”，其后可接名詞、形容詞、過去分詞、介詞短語等作表語。如：

He looks a kind person. 他看上去是個友好的人。

He looked strong (shocked). 他看上去很強壯(很震驚)。

She looks like a fool. 她看上去像個傻瓜。

注：其后有時可接 to be 結構作表語，但較少見。如：

He looked (to be) tired. 他好像很累了。

3. it looks 后可接 as if 從句。如：

It looks as if it is going to rain. 她像要下雨了。

3. 用于 look forward to, 表示“期待”、“盼望”，其中的to是介詞，而不是不定式符號，所以其后的賓語可以是名詞、代詞、動名詞等，但不能是動詞原形。如：

We’re looking forward to seeing him again. 我們盼望能再見到他。

The children are looking forward to your visit. 孩子們都盼望著你的到來。

比較下面的句子：

The letter we looked forward to came yesterday. 我們盼望的信昨天到了。

此句 we looked forward to 是修飾 the letter 的定語從句，其前省略了用作賓語的關系代詞 that, to 后的動詞 came 是主句謂語，而不是介詞 to 的賓語。

◆look，sound，smell，taste & feel

用作連系動詞，表示感覺，其意思為：look(看起來)，sound(聽起來)，smell(聞起來)，taste(嘗起來)，feel(摸起來)等

它們在用法上有以下特點：

1. 作為連系動詞，其后的表語可以是形容詞，但是通常不能是副詞。如：

這飯菜聞起來真香。

誤：The dinner smells well.

正：The dinner smells good.

他說的聽起來好像是真的。

誤：What he says sounds truly.

正：What he says sounds true.

2. 表示感覺，通常以被感覺的東西作主語，此時它們雖有被動詞意味，但不能用被動態。如：

這學校看起來很美。

誤：The school is looked very beautiful.

正：The school looks very beautiful.

這湯嘗起來很鮮。

誤：The soup is tasted nice.

正：The soup tastes nice.

3. 除 look 外，通常無進行時(即使是 look用于進行時的情形也不如用一般時態普通)。如：

正：You look [are looking] tired this evening. 今晚你好 像很累。

誤：What you says is sounding reasonable.

誤：It is smelling [tasting] nice.

誤：Glass is feeling smooth.

注：若 feel 不表示“聞起來”，而表示 feel “感覺”則可以用于進行時。如：

How are you feeling now? 你現在感覺如何?

I’m feeling terrible. 我感到難受極了。

另外，若用作實義動詞，則可以有進行時態。如：

He is tasting the pudding. 他在嘗布丁。
