4. 其后通常不能接 to be。如：

誤：The material feels to be soft. (應去掉 to be)

誤：The story sounds to be true. (應去掉 to be)

注：look 后是否接to be, 語法家看法不一，初學者最好避免。

5. 其后均可接介詞 like。如：

It sounds like thunder. 這聲音好似雷鳴。

This looks [tastes, smells, feels] like an orange. 這東西看起來(嘗起來，聞起來，摸起來)像桔子。

注：taste 和 smell 后還可接介詞 of, 表示“有……的味道”。如：

It tastes [smells] of fish. 這東西有魚的味道。

6. feel 有時可表示“使(讓)人感覺起來”。如：

It feels cold in here. 這兒很冷。

I love to go to the seaside in summer. It feels good tolie in the sun or swim in the cool sea. 夏天我喜歡到海濱玩，在海濱曬太陽或在涼爽的海水里游泳那是很愜意的。

◆lot n.

1. 用于 a lot of (=lots of)，意為“許多”，可用于修飾可數或不可數名詞。如：

We need a lot of [lots of] money. 我們需要很多錢。

He has quite a lot of [lots of] friends. 他有很多朋友。

注：用作主語時，謂語的數取決于它所修飾名詞的數。如：

A lot of money was spent on it. 在它上面花了很多錢。

A lot of people were interested in it. 對此感興趣的人很多。

2. 單獨用的 a lot可起名詞作用(用作主語或賓語)，也可起副詞作用(用作狀語)。如：

He’s given her a lot to eat. 他給了她許多吃的東西。

We see a lot of him these days. 這幾天我們經常見到他。

He is feeling a lot better. 他感覺好多了。

We like her quite a lot. 我們非常喜歡她。

◆love v. & n.

1. 用作動詞，表示“喜歡”、“愛”，其后接動詞時，可用不定式或動名詞，含義沒有多大差別。如：

He loves watching [to watch] TV. 他愛看電視。

注：在 would [should] love 之后一般只接不定式，有時接不定式的完成式，表示本想做某事，但未做成。如：

Little Jim would love to be taken to the theatre thisevening. 小吉姆希望今天晚上能帶他到劇院去。

I’d love to have read the book. 我想要是讀過那本書就好了(其實沒有讀過)。

與 like 不同的是，love 可受副詞 deeply 的修飾。如：

媽媽深深地愛著自己的孩子。

誤：The mother likes her children deeply.

正：The mother loves her children deeply.

2. 用作名詞，表示“對……的愛”，可用介詞 of 或 for。一般說來，表示對某人的愛，多用介詞 for；表示對某物的愛，用介詞of, for。如：

My love for you is deeper than the sea. 我對你的愛比海深。

He has little love of [for] money. 他不太愛財。

用于 give [send] one’s love to, 意為“向某人問好”。如：

Give my love to your parents, please. 請代我向你父母問好。

When you see her, give her my love. 你見到她時，代我向她問好。
