◆notice n. & v.

1. 用作動詞，表示“注意到”，注意以下用法：

(1) 通常指無意識的行為，但在祈使句，則指有意識的行為。如：

I didn’t notice what he said. 我沒有注意他說了什么。

Notice what he says. 注意他所說的話。

(2) 可用作及物或不及物動詞。如：

She was wearing a new dress, but he didn’t even notice(it). 她穿了件新連衣裙，但他根本沒有注意到。

(3) 其后可接復合賓語，其中的賓語補足語可以是現在分詞或不帶to 的不定式。如：

Did you notice her leave [leaving] the house? 她離開屋子你注意到了嗎?

She noticed the man look [looking] at her a couple of times. 她注意到那個男人朝她看了好幾次。

注：以上結構用現在分詞或不帶 to 的不定式的區別為：用現在分詞可指動作正在進行(未完成)或動詞作的全過程(已完成)，而用不帶 to 的不定式通常只指動作的全過程(即動詞已完成)。

另外，若不定式為完成式，通常應帶 to。如：

I noticed her to have come early. 我注意到她來得很早。

2. 用作名詞，注意以下用法：

(1) 表示“注意”，是不可數名詞。如：

His writings brought him into public notice. 他的著作引起了公眾的注意。

I warned him, but he took no notice of it. 我警告過他，但他不聽。

(2) 表示“布告”、“通知”、“啟事”等，是可數名詞。如：

The notice on the wall says "No smoking". 墻上的通告說“禁止吸煙”。

He posted a notice announcing the opening of the shop. 他貼了一張告示宣布商店開業。

注：若表示預先的通告或警告等，則為不可數名詞。如：

He gave me very short notice of his visit. 他在即將來訪前才倉促通知我。

Can you be ready at 5 minutes’ notice (at short notice)? 你能在接到通知五分鐘(短時間)內作好準備嗎?

注：until further notice, 意為“在另行通知以前”。如：

The shop is closed until further notice. 本店現已歇業，開業時間另行通知。

◆nowadays adv.

用作副詞，表示“現在”、“如今”，由于詞義的原因，通常與一般現在時連用，且多用于句首或句末作狀語。如：

Nowadays a lot of people go abroad. 時下有很多人出國。

Cars run very fast nowadays. 現在的汽車跑得很快。

注：有時放在名詞后作定語。比較：

Nowadays children have more pocket money. 如今，孩子們有更多的零用錢。

Children nowadays have more pocket money. 現在的孩子有更多的零用錢。

◆nowhere adv. & n.

1. 用作副詞，表示“到處都沒有”。如：

He could find it nowhere. 他到處都沒能找到它。

The boy was nowhere to be found. 哪兒都沒找到這個孩子。

注：若放在句首，其后接倒裝語序。如：

Nowhere could I see him. 我哪里也沒見到他。

Nowhere else could one find such beautiful scenery. 別處找不到這樣美麗的景色。

2. 有時可用作名詞，此時通常伴隨有修飾語。如：

The boys had nowhere to play. 這些男孩子沒有地方可玩。

I could find nowhere to park the car. 我找不到地方停車。
