suppose和supposing可用于引導條件從句嗎

suppose本來是動詞，supposing本來是現在分詞，但它們有可用作連詞，引導條件狀語從句，其意為“假若”“如果”等；此時主句通常為疑問句。如：

Supposing he can’t come, who will do the work? 假使他不能來，這工作誰做?

Supposing he does not come, shall we go without him? 如果他不來，是不是不帶他去?

Suppose you were given a chance to study in America, would you accept? 假如給你一個到美國學習的機會，你會接受嗎?

Suppose [Supposing] (that) we miss the train, what shall we do? 假如我們誤了火車，我們將怎么辦?

注意，suppose用作連詞引導條件狀語從句時，它必須置于主句之前，但supposing用作連詞引導條件狀語從句時，則可置于主句之前，也可以置于主句之后。如：

We'd love to come and see you on Saturday, supposing I don't have to work that day. 我想星期六來看你，假若那天我不上班的話。
