從以上例證可以看出：英國英語至少早在1866年就已經使用catch on fire，直到現在仍在使用，不過使用的頻率不大；而在美國英語中，至少早在1838年已經使用catch on fire，直到現在仍在使用，并且使用的頻率要大于英國英語使用的頻率。但無論怎樣catch on fire卻是地地道道的英語。
