so far 只能與現在完成時連用嗎？不一定！到底連用什么時態，要看它表示什么意思。

一、表示“迄今”“到目前為止”

1. 連用現在完成時

當so far修飾謂語動詞且表示一直持續到現在時，謂語動詞通常要用現在完成時。如：

So far there has been no bad news. 到現在為止還沒有什么壞消息。

So far 50 people have died in the fighting. 到現在為止，已有50人在戰斗中喪生。

So far the work has been easy but things may change. 到目前為止，這工作很容易，但情況可能有變化。

有時so far并非修飾謂語動詞，而是修飾句中的非謂語動詞，雖然此時的謂語不一定要使用現在完成時，但其中的非謂語動詞通常可視為由一個完成時態簡化而來。如：

It is one of the funniest things ______ on the Internet so far this year.

A. finding      B. being found              C. to find              D. found

答案為D。句中的非謂語動詞found可視為which have found之省略。

2. 連用一般現在時

當連用so far的謂語動詞并不表示一個持續的狀態，而只是表示現在一時的狀態時，謂語動詞通常不用現在完成時，而用一般現在時。如：

The closure of the Manchester printing factory is the company’s biggest single cutback so far. 曼徹斯特印刷廠的關閉是公司迄今為止最大的一次單項削減措施。

有時也連用現在進行時。如：

We’re (lying) ninetieth in the competition so far. 到目前為止，我們在比賽中排名第90。

3. 根據語境需要選用適合的時態

有時so far并非修飾謂語動詞，而是間接地說明句中的某個名詞，此時的句子謂語需要具體語境來使用時態。如：

She gave us a brief résumé of the project so far. 她給了我們一份該項目迄今為止的歷程簡介。（句中的so far間接地修飾名詞the project）

二、表示“（距離）如此之遠”“（程度）如此之深”

此時句子謂語需要根據具體語境來確定時態。如：

My feet are very sore from walking so far. 走了這么遠的路，我的腳非常痛。

My mother lives so far away that we hardly ever see her. 我母親住得那么遠，我們很少見到她。

Was it wise to push things so far? 把事情弄到這種地步明智嗎?

We had fallen so far behind that it seemed pointless continuing. 我們已經落在后面很遠，繼續下去似乎沒有什么意義。

三、表示“僅到一定程度”“僅在有限的范圍內”：

此時句子謂語也需要根據具體語境來確定時態。如：

I can only help him so far. 我只能幫他到這種程度。

I trust you only so far (and no further). 我對你的信任只到這個程度。
