“形容詞+from”的常見搭配

▲be absent from 做……缺席，不在　　

He was absent from the meeting. 他沒有參加會議。　　

He was absent from home yesterday. 他昨天不在家。　　

【注】比較下面兩句，由于absent后所接介詞不同，所導致的含義變化：　　

He is absent from Beijing. 他不在北京（而在別處）。　　

He is absent in Beijing. 他不在這里而在北京。　　

▲be different from 與……不同　　

He is different from me. 他與我不同。　　

American cars are different from ours. 美國造的汽車和我們的不一樣。　　

City life is very different from country life. 城市生活與農村生活很不相同。　　

【注】其中的介詞 from在英國英語中也可換成 to，在美國英語中也可換成 than，但兩者均不如用 from 普遍。但是，若其后接的是一個沒有引導詞的句子，通常用than。如：　　

She is quite different than we thought. 她跟我們原來想象的大不一樣。　　

若其后接的是一個以what引導的從句，則也可用from或to。如：　　

She is quite different than [from, to] what we thought. 她跟我們原來想象的大不一樣。　　

▲be distinct from 與……不同，……有別于　　

Reading is distinct from writing. 閱讀與寫作不同。　　

The Spanish temperament is distinct from that of the Portuguese. 西班牙人的氣質有別于葡萄牙人。　　

▲be far from 離……很遠；遠遠不，遠非　　

Our school is far from the station. 我們學校離車站很遠。　　

His birthday is not far from mine. 他的生日和我的生日相隔不遠。　　

His work is far from (being) satisfactory. 他的工作絲毫不令人滿意。　　

▲be free from 擺脫；沒有　　

The city is free from thieves. 這個城市沒有盜賊。　　

He had the good fortune to be free from illness all his life. 他命好，一輩子沒生病。　　

【注】其中的介詞from 有時也可換成 of。如：　　

The city is free of thieves. 這個城市沒有盜賊。　　

Most of the roads are now free of snow. 現在大多數路都已沒有積雪了。　　

▲be safe from 不會遭到……的危險，免受……的傷害　　

She was safe from her enemies. 她不會受到仇敵的傷害。　　

The house is not safe from theft. 這房子不安全，容易被盜。　　

▲be tired from 因……疲倦　　

I’m very tired from running as fast as I can. 奮力快跑后，我感覺很疲倦。　　

I was tired from having sat up all night. 我因熬夜而疲倦。
