▲be accustomed to 習(xí)慣于 He was accustomed to hard work. This is not the kind of treatment I am accustomed to. 【注】有時(shí)其中的 be 也可換成其他聯(lián)系動(dòng)詞(如 get, grow, become 等)。如: I soon got accustomed to his strange ways. He got accustomed to taking long walks. When have I ever been accustomed to be treated like this? ▲be blind to 對(duì)……視而不見(一無所知) He is completely blind to her faults. We must not be blind to the suffering of others. His passion for her made him blind to everything else. ▲be close to 與…… You are too close to me. Our house is close to the bus stop. ▲be contrary to 與…… The result is contrary to expectation. Contrary to all advice, he started to climb the mountain. ▲be cruel to 對(duì)…… He was cruel to his parents. I’ve always wondered why they were so cruel to animals. ▲be deaf to 對(duì)……聽不進(jìn)(置之不理) He was deaf to all advice. He was deaf to all requests for money. ▲be dear to 對(duì)…… He lost everything that was dear to him. Honour is dearer to him than life. ▲be devoted to 致力(獻(xiàn)身)于;專用于;喜歡(疼愛) The students are devoted to their studies. Her life was devoted to the cause of justice. She is devoted to her children. This dictionary is devoted to explaining word usage. ▲be due to 應(yīng)給予,應(yīng)屬于,應(yīng)歸于 The credit is due to you. Respect is due to older people. Our grateful thanks are due to you. 【注】be due to后若接動(dòng)詞原形,則表示“按計(jì)劃或預(yù)定要做(發(fā)生)某事”,此時(shí)的to不是介詞,而是不定式符號(hào)。如: He is due to leave very soon. His book is due to be published in October. ▲be equal to 與…… Mary is equal to Bill in brains. I’m not equal to the position. Bill is quite equal to running the office. ▲be essential to 對(duì)…… Is money essential to happiness?
