不可數(shù)名詞前是否用定冠詞的基本原則

有網(wǎng)友問，如何理解書上說“不可數(shù)名詞前不用冠詞”。其實說“不可數(shù)名詞前不用冠詞”是不妥的。因為“不可數(shù)名詞前用不用冠詞”與說話者是否特指該名詞有關(guān)。

如果不可數(shù)名詞在句中表泛指意義，則其前不用定冠詞（當(dāng)然原則上也不用不定冠詞，因為是不可數(shù)名詞嘛）。如：

Blood is thicker than water. 血濃于水。

Money isn’t everything. 金錢不是一切。

Water must be pure if it is to be drunk. 水如供飲用必須凈化。

Oil is essential for the manufacture of plastic. 石油是塑料生產(chǎn)的基本原料。

Capitalism is a by-product of free enterprise. 資本主義是自由企業(yè)的副產(chǎn)品。

但是，如果不可數(shù)名詞在句是表特指意義，則要在其前加定冠詞。如：

The money was dealt out fairly. 錢分配得公平合理。

I’ll just sponge the blood from the wound. 我就去把傷口上的血吸掉。

The water in the pool is warm enough to swim in . 池里的水夠暖和的可以游泳。

Always check the oil before starting the car. 發(fā)動汽車之前，總要先檢查一下油料。
