二是用于句首。如：　　

Therefore, we must advocate the forming of workshop committees. 因此我們倡導組織車間委員會。（摘自張道真語法）　　

下面這個句子摘自《牛津英語語法》，它表明therefore可以放在句中的不同位置：　　

The Finnish delegate has not yet arrived. We are therefore postponing / We have therefore decided to postpone / Therefore we are postponing the meeting. 芬蘭代表還沒有到達。我們因此要把會議推遲 / 因此我們已決定把會議推遲 / 因此我們要把會議推遲。 　　

三是用于連接兩個句子，此時與并列連詞的用法極為相似。如：　　

It rained; therefore the game was cancelled. 天下雨了，為此球賽取消了。（摘自張道真語法）　　

There seemed no chance of coming to an agreement; therefore it was decided to break off negotiations. 似乎已沒有達成協議的可能，因此決定中止談判。（摘自薄冰語法）　　

注意therefore前面用的是分號，通常不宜用逗號，否則就構成了所謂的逗號句。盡管在現代英語中“逗號句”已慢慢為人們所接受，但還是有不少嚴謹的語法學家對此持反對態度（有關“逗號句”的說明，見本站以下文章：www.hz123456.com/Article/201311/3526.html）　　

請看下面兩句，摘自《牛津英語語法》（注意句中的標點）：　　

He took my shoes, so I couldn’t leave the house. 他把鞋拿走了，我出不了門。　　

=He took my shoes; therefore I wasn’t able to leave. 他把我的鞋拿走了，所以我不能夠出門。　　

最后還說明一點，當therefore連接兩個句子時，它還常可以與并列連詞and連用，而其他的兩個并列連詞是不可以連在一起使用的。如：　　

We were unable to get funding and therefore had to abandon the project. 我們無法籌到資金，因此不得不放棄計劃。（摘自劍橋詞典）　　

Muscle cells need lots of fuel and therefore burn lots of calories. 肌肉細胞需要很多能量，所以會燃燒大量卡路里。（摘自柯林斯詞典）　　

The new boots are lighter and softer, and therefore more comfortable to wear. 新靴子更輕更軟，因此穿起來也更舒服。（摘自麥克米蘭詞典）
