如何用英語表示“睡得很熟”　　

有網友在“英語答疑網”提問如下：　　　　

下面的句子是 2012 年陜西卷的一道高考題：　　

Hot as the night air was, we slept deeply because we were so tired after the long journey.　　

我對句中的 sleep deeply 有點疑問，老師不是說要表示“睡得很熟”，應該用sleep fast 嗎？這里怎么用了 sleep deeply 呢？還是兩種說法都可以嗎？如果 sleep fast 和 sleep deeply 都可以說的話，那還有沒有其他說法呢？（即表示“睡得很熟”的其他表達）　　

關于此問題，本文從兩個方面歸納如下（不一定完整，但對初學者已夠用了；例句雖然簡單，但均摘自辭書，讀者可放心套用）：

1. 漢語說“睡得很熟”，若使用動詞sleep，英語可以有以下常用表達：　　

(1) sleep deeply　　

She slept deeply but woke early. 她睡得很熟但醒得很早。　　

He was exhausted and slept deeply. 他筋疲力盡，睡得很沉。　　

(2) sleep sound　　

He sleeps sound every night. 他每晚都睡得很熟。　　

He was lying in bed, sound asleep. 他躺在床上，睡得正香。　　

(3) sleep soundly　　

She’s sleeping soundly. 她睡得很死。　　

Did you sleep soundly last night? 你昨晚睡得好（睡得沉）嗎？　　

(4) sleep heavily　　

The baby was sleeping heavily. 寶寶睡得很沉。　　

In spite of this, I slept heavily. 盡管如此我還是睡得很熟。　　

2. 漢語說“睡得很熟”，若使用形容詞asleep，英語可以有以下常用表達：　　

(1) fast asleep 　　

He seems to be fast asleep. 他似乎睡得很熟。　　

They were both fast asleep in their cots. 他們倆在嬰兒床上酣睡著。

說明：副詞 fast 修飾形容詞 asleep 的用法很普通，但它修飾動詞 sleep 的用法卻很少見。

(2) sound asleep 　　

She is still sound asleep in her bed. 她仍在床上睡得很熟。　　

Turning over, she was soon sound asleep again. 她翻了個身，很快又沉沉睡去。　　

(3) soundly asleep 　　

Don’t wake her up—she is soundly asleep. 別吵醒她，她睡得正香。

She was too soundly asleep to hear Stefano’s return. 她睡得太熟，沒有聽見斯蒂芬諾回來。　　

(4) deeply asleep 　　

The boy was very deeply asleep. 男孩睡得很熟。　　

You will be deeply asleep by the time we get home. 等我們到家時，你會睡得很熟了。
