elect的用法與搭配

1. 表示“選舉”，主要指選舉某人擔任某職位。若所涉及的職位只有一個（即獨一無二），則通常不用冠詞。如：

We elected him chairman. 我們選他當主席。

They elected Nixon President. 他們選尼克松當總統。

除以上最通常的表達外，類似以下說法也可以：

我們選他當主席。

正：We elected him (as) chairman.

正：We elected him (to be) chairman.

正：We elected him (our) chairman.

正：We elected him (as our) chairman.

有時也有用定冠詞的情況（但省略該冠詞更常見）。如：

Who is (the) captain of your team? 誰是你們隊的隊長?

He was elected (the) President of the United States. 他被選為美國總統。

但是，類似下面的句子通常要用冠詞：

They elected a new president (a new mayor). 他們選了一位新總統（新市長）。

2. 其后可接不定式，表示決定做某事。如：

He elected to go abroad. 他決定出國。

He elected to become a lawyer. 他決定當律師。
