There being no bus, we had to walk home. 因為沒有公交車，我們只好走著回家。

There having been no rain, the ground was dry. 一直沒有下雨，土地干旱。

There being nothing to do, I went to bed. 因為沒事可做，所以我就上床睡覺了。

四、“There be結構”的被動式：There is said to be...

“There be結構”沒有過去分詞形式。原因是，be動詞的過去分詞雖然是been，但無法表被動，所以，該結構無過去分詞。但它可以有被動語態，這雖然與討論的問題關系不大，但也屬于一種特殊用法，在此一并論述。

我們常說：He is said to be an agricultural scientist. 據說他是一位農業科學家。

原來，這個句子是這樣轉換來的：

A. People say that he is an agricultural scientist.

B. → That he is an agricultural scientist is said.（因主語太長，顯得頭重腳輕。我們一般采用形式主語It替代真實主語that從句，見C句。）

C. → It is said that he is an agricultural scientist.

D. → He is said to be an agricultural scientist.

轉換的結果是，He作了主語，is said意為“被說”，to be an agricultural scientist成為動詞不定式。
