if it weren’t [wasn’t] for與if it hadn’t been for用法

一、基本用法

這是兩個很常用的虛擬語氣句型，其意為“若不是(有)”、“要不是有”。如：

If it weren’t for water, no plant could grow. 要是沒有水植物就無法生長。

If it hadn’t been for the doctor, he would have died. 要不是醫生救了他，他就會死了。

注：此句型有可用but for, without等替換。如：

If it hadn’t been for [But for, Without] your assistance we wouldn’t have succeeded. 要不是有你幫忙，我們是不會成功的。

二、所用時間范圍

原則上說，if it weren’t [wasn’t] for 用于談論現在的情況，而if it hadn’t been for 用于談論過去的情況。但實際上if it weren’t [wasn’t] for有時也可用于談論過去的情況。如：

If it were not for their help, we couldn’t have got over the difficulties. 要不是他們幫助，這些困難我們不克服不了的。
