used to用法的五大注意點

一注意其基本用法

used to的意思是“過去經�！薄耙郧俺３！�，其后接動詞原形。如：

Life here is much easier than it used to be. 這里的生活比過去容易多了。

It used to be believed that sugar could decay the teeth. 過去人們認為糖會腐蝕牙齒。

Our company used to do business with theirs. 我們公司過去和他們的公司常有業務往來。

My parents used to live in South America and I used to fly there from Europe in the holidays.我雙親常在南美洲住,假期里我常從歐洲乘飛機到那里去。

—Do you play golf? 你打高爾夫球嗎?

— No, but I used to. 不打，但我過去打。

We used to go camping every summer when we were students. 我們當學生時每年夏天我們都去野營。

二注意used to的否定式

used to的否定式直接在used后加not構成或借助動詞did構成。如：

I used not / usedn’t to enjoy listening to rock music. 我過去不喜歡聽搖滾音樂。

My mother didn’t use to be so forgetful. 我媽媽原來不是這么健忘的。

三注意used to的疑問式

used to的疑問式，直接將used置于句首構成疑問式，或借助動詞did構成。如：

Did you use to play football on the playground? 你以前常在操場踢球嗎？

There used to be some pine trees here, usedn’t there? 這里原來長著許多松樹，是不是？

Used you to make the fairy stories up out of your own head? 你曾經自己杜撰童話故事嗎？

You used to go there, usedn’t / didn’t you? 你過去常到那兒去，是嗎?

Where did you use to live? 你過去是住哪兒的?

四要注意容易混淆的三個used

(1) used to 意為“過去經�！�，其中的 to 是不定式符號，后接動詞原形。 如：

We used to go there every year. 我每年都去那兒。

(2) be used to 意為“習慣于”，其中的to是介詞，后接動詞要用動名詞。如：

He is used to glancing over newspapers after supper. 他習慣吃過晚飯后瀏覽一下各種報紙。

After three weeks she had got used to the extreme heat. 三個星期后她就適應酷熱的環境了。

(3) be used to 有時可能是動詞 use 的被動語態結構, 意為“被用來”，其中的 to 為不定式符號，其后要接動詞原形。如：

Nylon is used to make stockings. 尼龍被用來造襪子。

五要注意used to 與would的用法比較

兩者都表示過去的習慣。當表示過去習慣性的動作時可互換，如：

When we were children we would / used to go skating every winter. 我們小時候，每年冬天都去溜冰。

(1) used to表示過去的狀態，would表示過去反復的動作。如：

She used to be a quiet girl. 她以前是一個文靜的姑娘。

He is not what he used to be. 他已不是從前的他了。

(2) used to表示過去跟現在對照，其含義為“現在已不”。如：

He doesn’t smoke these days, but he used to. 他現在不抽煙，但以前是抽的。

There used to be a hospital here. 這兒過去是一家醫院。
