現在分詞的基本概念與基本形式

與動名詞一樣，現在分詞也是非謂動詞的一種形式，它一般也是由動詞原形后加詞尾-ing構成，也就是說，現在分詞與動名詞在形式上是一樣的。現在分詞在句子中主要用作表語、賓語補足語、定語、狀語等。如：

It is astonishing to me that he should be absent. 他竟未出席令我驚訝。

I saw him out posing in his new sports car. 我看見他開著他的嶄新跑車招搖過市。

The story had a satisfying ending. 這故事有一個令人滿意的結局。

Today's paper carries an exciting account of the match. 今天的報紙刊載了這場比賽的精彩報道。

The actor playing the father was too wooden. 飾演父親的演員太呆板。

Seeing the police, he made a run for the exit. 一看到警察他就向出口奔去。

Finding a gap, she thrust through the brambles. 她發現了一處缺口，于是便從帶刺的灌木叢中鉆了過去。
