表示江、河、湖、海等名詞冠詞的使用問題

▲根據英語語法，表示江、河、海的專有名詞前通常要用定冠詞。如：

New York is on the Hudson River. 紐約位于哈得孫河岸。

The Changjiang River irrigates vast stretches of farmland along its course. 長江灌溉著兩岸的大片農田。

The Yangtse River is one of the arteries of traffic in China. 長江是中國的要道之一。

The Huang He River is the cradle of Chinese culture. 黃河是中國文化的搖籃。

The Missouri River flows eastward into the Mississippi. 密蘇里河向東流入密西西比河。

The Red Sea separates [divides] Africa from Asia. 紅海把非洲和亞洲分開。

▲對于表示湖名的專有名詞，其前是否用冠詞通常要分兩種情況：

(1) 中國的湖名英譯時，其前通常用定冠詞：

the Dongting Lake 洞庭湖

the Boyany Lake 鄱陽湖

the West Lake 西湖

(2) 外國的湖名前通常不加定冠詞(lake可放前面或后面)：

Lake Constance 康斯坦茨湖

Lake Erie 伊利湖

Lake Geneva 日內瓦湖

Lake Success 成功湖

Pass Lake 巴斯湖

Silver Lake 銀湖

例外的情況有：

the Lake of Geneva 日內瓦湖
