序數詞前冠詞的使用規律

規律一：序數詞前用定冠詞

在通常情況下，序數詞前要用定冠詞。如：

Read your book, starting at the second paragraph.朗讀書本，從第2段讀起。

We especially enjoyed the third act of the play. 我們特別喜歡戲的第3幕。

The boxer gave in at the fifteenth round. 這個拳擊師在第15個回合中認輸了。

I can find seven, but where is the eighth plate? 我能找到7個盤子，第8個在哪兒呢？

Skip the first chapter and start on page 25. 跳過第1章，從第25頁開始看。

He’s going to compete with his old rival in the second round. 第2回合時他將與老對手競爭。

規律二：序數詞前用不定冠詞

在序數詞之前有時使用不定冠詞a (an)，用以表示數量或序數的增加。如：

Do you want to read it a third time? 你還想看第3次嗎？

I’d like a second helping, I’m still hungry! 我想再來一份，我還餓著呢！

Several candidates were called for a second interview. 有幾個候選人被叫來作第二次面試。

He gave her another sedative. Then a third. 他給了她另一片鎮靜劑，接著又給了一片。

They proposed a third formula for the new swimming pool. 他們為新游泳池提出了第3種方案。

規律三：序數詞前用物主代詞

當序數詞前有物主代詞修飾時，其前不能再用冠詞。如：

She’s his second wife. 她是他的第二個妻子。

This makes our third party this month. 這算我們這個月第3次聚會了。

This was her third conviction for cheating. 這是她第3次被判犯有欺詐罪。

I can dimly remember my fourth birthday. 我隱約記得自己過4歲生日時的情景。

To be honest, my second pregnancy was an accident. 說實話，我的第二次懷孕是個意外。

規律四：不用序數詞來表示序數

有些漢語中的序數在英語中并不一定要用序數詞來表示。如：

I read Chapter 11. 我讀了第11章。

All candidates must attempt Questions 1-5. 所有考生均須回答第1-5題。

Everybody, we begin at page 50 today. 各位，我們今天從第50頁開始。

Act Two begins with a short dialogue between father and son. 第2幕以父子間的一段小對話開始。

I live in the last house but two in this street. 我住在這條街上倒數第3座房子里。

The newspaper ran the review on page four. 報紙把這則評論刊登在第4版上。
