英語冠詞在句中的通常位置和特殊位置

一、英語在句子中的通常位置

一般說來冠詞放在單數可數名詞之前，如果名詞有其他定語，不定冠詞應放在定語之前。如：

It is advisable always to wear a safety belt when you’re driving. 開車的時候最好總是系著安全帶。

It may rain, but I’ll chance it—I won’t take an umbrella. 可能會下雨，但我冒冒險不帶雨傘。

They descended the stairs and crossed the space to the airport buildings. 他們走下梯子跨過廣場來到機場大樓。

This is a very unusual request. 這是一個不同尋常的請求。

The pan is an awkward shape. 這個鍋的形狀用起來不方便。

He demonstrated how to use the new machine. 他演示怎樣使用新機器。

二、英語在句子中的特殊位置

在以下情況下，冠詞的位置比較特殊，應注意：

①單數可數名詞被such, many, half, what 等修飾時，不定冠詞應置于其后。如：

If I called him once I called him half a dozen times. 我至少給他打了6次電話了。

Many a famous pop star has been ruined by drugs. 很多著名的流行音樂歌星都因使用毒品而毀了自己。

We did not provide for such a large increase in prices. 我們沒想到價格的增幅會這么大，所以沒有充分的準備。

One of these days he’ll realize what a fool he’s been. 不久他就會明白他一直是多么愚蠢。

②單數可數名詞前作定語的形容詞被as, so, how, too修飾時，通常采用“as / so / how / too+形容詞+a / an +名詞”這樣的詞序。如：

He demanded too high a price of me. 他向我索價太高。

She is as good a cook as her mother. 她像她母親一樣會做飯。

It was so hot a day that I could hardly work. 天熱得我簡直沒法工作。

How good a pianist is he? 他鋼琴彈得怎么樣?

值得注意的是，以上結構通常只限于形容詞修飾的是單數可數名詞，而不能是不可數名詞或復數名詞，換句話說，其中的不定冠詞不能沒有。如：

可以說：Mary is too kind a girl to refuse. 瑪麗是個好心腸的女孩，不會拒絕的。

不能說：They are too kind girls to refuse.

③當定冠詞與all, both, half表倍數的double, twice, three times等分數詞等一起修飾名詞時，定冠詞應放在它們之后。如：

If all the seats are booked, we shall have to stay at home, that’s all. 如果全部戲票都已預售一空，我們只好呆在家里，沒有別的辦法。

Not both the girls like the same boy. 并不是兩個女孩都喜歡這同一個男孩子。

He hasn’t half the strength of character Ritchie has. 他一點也不具備里奇那樣的堅強性格。

He got double the sum. 他得到了那個金額的兩倍。

This room is twice the length of the other, but much narrower. 這個房間的長度是那個房間的兩倍，但窄得多。
