lack的用法與搭配

1. 表示“缺乏”，用作名詞，是不可數名詞；表示某一方面的缺乏，其后接介詞 of。如：

Lack of time prevented me from writing. 我因沒有時間而沒有寫信。

Hard work can often make up for lack of intelligence. 苦干常能彌補智力的不足。

有時可與不定冠詞連用。如：

There has been a great lack of water this summer. 今年夏天很缺水。

表示“因缺乏……”，通常用介詞 because of, for, through 等。如：

I can’t buy it because of my lack of money. 我不能買它是因為沒錢。

The plants died for [through] lack of water. 這些植物因為缺水而死了。

2. 用作動詞，表示“缺乏”，一般為及物動詞，不要受名詞用法的影響，在其后用介詞 of。如：

他們沒錢送他上大學。

誤：They lacked of the money to send him to university.

正：They lacked the money to send him to university.

雖為及物動詞，但通常不用于被動語態。如：

那兒的人缺乏食物。

誤：Food is lacked by the people there.

正：The people there lack food.

3. be lacking為英語的慣用表達（其中的lacking可視為形容詞），其意為“缺乏”“不夠”，可用人作主語，也可用缺乏的事物作主語；要表示在某一方面缺乏，用介詞 in。如：

He was not lacking in courage. 他并不缺乏勇氣。

Money for the project is still lacking. 進行這個項目的錢還沒有著落。

在許多情況下，be lacking in sth與 lack sth 同義，但注意不要說lack in sth。如：

He’s lacking in courage.=He lacks courage. 他缺乏勇氣。
