matter用法要點(diǎn)完全歸納

1. 用作動(dòng)詞，是不及物動(dòng)詞，主要用于否定句、疑問(wèn)句或條件句中，意為“要緊”“關(guān)系重要”，多用 it 作主語(yǔ)。如：

It matters little who is elected. 誰(shuí)當(dāng)選無(wú)關(guān)緊要。

It will not matter if you come home late. 即使你回家晚了也沒(méi)關(guān)系。

針對(duì)某人而言，后接介詞 to；針對(duì)某事或做事而言，后接介詞about。如：

What does it matter to you? 這對(duì)你有什么關(guān)系?

It doesn’t matter about closing the window. 關(guān)上窗子沒(méi)有關(guān)系。

有時(shí)也用于肯定句中。如：

Some things matter more than others. 有些事情更重要。

What matters most is good health. 最要緊的是有個(gè)好的身體。

2. 用作名詞，與 the 連用，表示“亂子”“毛病”（相當(dāng)于形容詞 wrong），其后通常連用的介詞是 with。如：

Is anything the matter? 有什么問(wèn)題嗎?

Something’s the matter with my foot. 我的腳有點(diǎn)毛病。

Is there anything the matter with you? 出了什么事嗎?

在 What’s the matter (with…)? 這一結(jié)構(gòu)里，what是主語(yǔ)，the matter 是表語(yǔ)(=wrong)。因此在賓語(yǔ)從句中應(yīng)注意其語(yǔ)序：

I don’t know what is the matter. 我不知道出了什么事。

比較：I don’t know what the matter is. 我不知道這種物質(zhì)是什么。

3. 表示“事情”“問(wèn)題”，在類似以下的表達(dá)中，用介詞of 或 for 均可：

It’s a matter of [for] congratulation (complaint, regret). 那是件是值得慶賀（令人抱怨、令人遺憾）的事。

但是，在類似以下這類表達(dá)中卻通常只用介詞of：

It’s a matter of time (money, habit, form). 那是一個(gè)時(shí)間（錢、習(xí)慣、形式）問(wèn)題。

4. 用于“no matter+疑問(wèn)詞”，用以引導(dǎo)讓步狀語(yǔ)從句，意為“不管”“無(wú)論”等。如：

That is wrong, no matter who says it. 不管誰(shuí)說(shuō)的，那都是錯(cuò)誤的。

No matter when you come, you’re welcome. 無(wú)論你何時(shí)來(lái)，我們都?xì)g迎你。

No matter what you do, don’t touch this switch. 無(wú)論怎樣，都別碰這個(gè)按鈕。

We’ll have to finish it, no matter how long it takes. 不管要花多長(zhǎng)時(shí)間，我們都要完成它。

“no matter+疑問(wèn)詞”只能引導(dǎo)狀語(yǔ)從句，不能引導(dǎo)名詞性從句，因此此時(shí)要注意它與 whoever, whatever（可引導(dǎo)狀語(yǔ)從句和名詞性從句）的異同。如：

不管你說(shuō)什么，我都不會(huì)相信你。

正：No matter what you say, I won’t believe you.

正：Whatever you say, I won’t believe you.

引導(dǎo)狀語(yǔ)從句，用 no matter what 或 whatever 均可。如：

不管你給什么我都吃。

誤：I’ll eat no matter what you give me.

正：I’ll eat whatever you give me.

引導(dǎo)賓語(yǔ)從句可以用 whatever，但不能用 no matter what。
