If only和as if所引出的虛擬語氣用法

1. if only后的句子用虛擬語氣

if only 與 I wish一樣，也是表示與事實相反的愿望的，其后所虛擬語氣的時態與 wish后所接時態的情況相同。如：

If only it would stop raining! 雨要是停了就好了。

If only he didn’t drive so fast. 但愿他車沒開得那么快。

If only she had had more courage! 她再勇敢一些就好了。

注：if only 通常獨立使用，沒有主句。

2. as if (as though)從句的虛擬語氣

以as if (as though)引導的方式狀語從句或表語從句，有時用虛擬語氣，若表示與現在事實相反，謂語動詞用一般過去時；若表示與過去事實相反，用過去完成時；表示將來的可能性不大，用would (might, could)+動詞原形。如：

He looked at me as if I were mad. 他瞧著我仿佛我瘋了似的。

I remember the whole thing as if it happened yesterday. 我記得整個這件事就仿佛是昨天發生的。

注：從句所表示的內容若為事實或可能為事實，也可用陳述語氣：

It looks as if we’ll be late. 我們似乎要遲到了。

This meat tastes as if it has already gone bad. 這肉吃起來似乎已經壞了。

在現代英語中，有時即使從句內容不是事實，也可能用陳述語氣。如如：

I feel as if [as though] I’m floating on air. 他感到好像漂浮在空中。

另外，還要注意 It isn’t as if…的翻譯。如：

It isn’t as if you were going away for good. 又不是你離開不回來了。
