11．這雙鞋不相配，一只大，一只小。

誤：These shoes do not match; one is large and another is small.

正：These shoes do not match; one is large and the other is small.

析：表示兩者當中的另一個，要用 the other，不用another。

12．今天下午我打過電話，但沒人接聽。

誤：I telephoned this afternoon, but nobody received.

正：I telephoned this afternoon, but nobody answered.

析：表示接電話，英語習慣用動詞 answer。順便說一句，聽見門鈴或敲門聲去開門，習慣上也用動詞 answer。如：I knocked at the door but no one answered. 我敲了敲門，但沒有人來開門。

13. 為什么不給她送些花呢?

誤：Why not give her any flowers?

正：Why not give her some flowers?

析：在表示請求或邀請的疑問句中，一般要用some，而不用any。又如：Would you like some bananas? 吃香蕉嗎?

14．不久天空中出現了星星。

誤：Soon the stars were appeared in the sky.

誤：Soon the sky appeared the stars.

正：Soon the stars appeared in the sky.

析：appear(出現)是不及物動詞，因此其后不能有賓語，也不能用于被      動語態。

15．她離開時，她的丈夫還在睡熟。

誤：Her husband was very asleep when she left.

正：Her husband was fast [sound] asleep when she left.

析：要表示“睡得很熟”，asleep 不能用 very 修飾，可用 fast或 sound 來修飾。類似地還有：He’s in a sound sleep. 他睡得很香。

16. 他十分關心他的汽車。

誤：He gives all his attentions to his car.

正：He gives all his attention to his car.

析：attention(注意)是不可數名詞，不能用復數形式，也不能與不定冠詞連用。

17．你的工作不好,但我的工作更糟。

誤：Your work is bad, but mine is more bad.

正：Your work is bad, but mine is worse.

析：bad(壞的)的比較等級為不規則變化，即 worse, worst。使用時不要按漢語意思使用 more bad這樣的表達形式。

18. 因為下雨，所以我們只好呆在家里。

誤：Because it was raining, so we had to stay at home.

正：Because it was raining, we had to stay at home.

正：It was raining, so we had to stay at home.

析：because(因為)是從屬連詞，用以引導原因狀語從句；而so(所      以)是并列連詞，用以連接并列句。 兩者不可同用在一個句子中，改正的辦法是：任意去掉其中的一個。

19. 他還是孩子時就開始喜歡詩歌。

誤：He became to like poetry when he was a boy.

正：He began to like poetry when he was a boy.

析：表示開始做某事，英語可用begin [start] to do sth。become 后習慣上不接不定式。

20. 躺在床上看書是個壞習慣。

誤：It is a bad habit to read on bed.

正：It is a bad habit to read in bed.

正：It is a bad habit to read on a [the] bed.

析：表示“在床上”，用介詞 on 或 in 均可，但用 on 時 bed 前應有冠詞，用 in 時 bed 前沒有冠詞。 但是若是指某一張具體的床，則也可能用兩者，如：in [on] that bed (在那張床上)，in [on] the same bed(在同一張床上)等。另外，有時要暗示人身上蓋有東西，也可能用 in the bed。
