五、修飾worth

worth在詞性方面是一個比較特殊的詞：有的詞典認為它是介詞，有的詞典認為它是形容詞。但不管將它視為介詞還是形容詞，若要加強語氣，英語習慣上用well 修飾，而不用very。如：

The results are well worth the expense. 這些成果是完全值得這些花費的。

The dress was so beautiful when it arrived that it was well worth the wait. 送到的連衣裙實在是太漂亮了，等待完全值得。

Four days’ car hire costs $50, which is well worth it for the freedom it gives you. 租車4天花費50美元，相對給你帶來的方便來說，這是非常值得的。

順便說一句，worth后接動詞時不用不定式，而用動名詞（并且用主動形式表示被動意義）。如：

This book is well worth reading. 這本書很值得一讀。

It was well worth waiting for. 這件事倒是很值得等待。
