1. 主要用于肯定句中，在否定句或疑問中通常用 anyone 代之：Someone has left his wallet on the desk. 有人把錢包丟在桌上了。/ There’s someone in the room. 屋里有個人。（比較：There’s not anyone in the room. 屋里沒有人。）

有時為了表示一種較肯定的意味或提出請求等，也可能用于非肯定句中：Are you expecting someone this afternoon? 今天下午你在等人嗎？/ Will you ask someone to carry this bag for me, please? 請你幫我叫個人提這個袋子好嗎？

2. 一般不與介詞 of 連用表示部分關系；若要表示這個意思可用some one（分開寫）的形式：Will some one of you help her? 你們當中有人愿意幫她嗎？

3. 用作主語時，謂語要用單數；但是使用相應代詞時注意：在正式英語中通常用單數，但在口語或非正式英語中通常用復數，以避免因性別之分帶來的不必要的麻煩：

【解析】四個選項中只有unless填入空格句意最通順。unless在意義上相當于if…not。句意是：如果你不能保證按時完成任務，你就必須在晚上繼續工作。又如：She will not work hard unless you push her. 除非有人督促她，不然她不會努力。

附：unless用法詳解

1. 引導條件狀語從句，通常放在主句之后，但若是為了加強從句語氣，也可放到主句之前：Do not come unless I call you. 我不叫你，你就不要來。/ Unless you start at once, you’ll be late. 如果不馬上走，你就要遲到了。

若主句是一般將來時，unless引導的從句要用一般現在時表示將來意義（見上例）。

2. 若主、從句的主語相同，且從句謂語包含有動詞be, 有時可用省略形式（即省略主語和動詞be)：I won’t go unless (I’m) invited. 除非請我，不然我就不去。/ Unless (he is) in uniform, he doesn’t look like a policeman. 除非穿上制服，他看起來不像警察。

3. 由于本身已含有否定意義，因此不要受 if…not 的影響而在unless后誤加not：

如果不下雨，我們就去。

正：We shall go if it doesn’t rain.

正：We shall go unless it rains.

誤：We shall go unless it doesn’t rain.

4. unless 與 if…not 的用法對比：

(1) 兩者含義相同，有時也可互換，但互換的場合一般只限于：當我們要去結束一個已經存在的想法或狀態時（而不是去開始一種新的想法或狀態）。試體會：I’ll stay at home unless I am invited [if I am not invited] to the party. 要是不邀請我去參加晚會，我就呆在家里。（也就是說：“邀請我參加晚會”會結束“我將呆在家里”這一現在的打算）/ You’ll not succeed unless you work hard [if you don’t work hard]. 如果不努力，你就不會成功。（也就是說：“努力”會結束“你將不成功”這一現在已存在的趨向）。

若要表示所述條件會導致一種新的想法或情況，通常要用 if…not, 而不用unless。試體會：I’ll be angry if I’m not invited to the party. 如果不邀請我參加晚會，我會生氣的。（也就是說：“不邀請我去參加晚會”會導致一種新情況——“我會生氣”）/ I will be surprised if he doesn’t have an accident. 他要是不出事，我倒感到奇怪了。（也就是說：“他不出事”會導致一種新情況——“我感到奇怪”）

(2) 表示虛擬條件時，一般用 if…not：I would have died if the doctors had not saved me. 要不是醫生救了我，我早就死了。/ She’d be pretty if she didn’t wear so much make-up. 要是她不過分打扮，本來是挺漂亮的。

(3) unless引導的從句中有時根據語義的需要可用否定詞，而if…not從句中不可再加否定詞：

 正：I will go unless no one else does. 如果沒有別的人去就 我去。

 誤：I will go if no one else doesn’t.

(4) 兩個if…not從句可用and連接，但是兩個unless從句卻不能用and連接：

正：She won’t lose weight if she does not keep a diet and if she does not take exercise every day. 如果她不按規 定進食，不每天進行鍛煉，那么她的體重就不會減輕。

正：She won’t lose weight unless she keeps a diet and takes exercise every day.（同上）
