為什么是Me and my colleagues visited…？

【問】2018年12月31日，新年前夕，中國國家主席習(xí)近平在北京通過中央廣播電視總臺和互聯(lián)網(wǎng)，發(fā)表了二〇一九年新年賀詞。其中有一句話是“我和同事們出訪五大洲，參加了許多重要外交活動，…。” 中國國際廣播電臺國際在線(CRI Online)提供的英語同聲傳譯是：Me and my colleagues visited five continents and attended many important diplomatic occasions….

請問英譯文句首為什么是Me and my colleagues visited…而不是 I and my colleagues visited…? 人稱代詞賓格可以作主語嗎？

【答】首先必須明確一點：人稱代詞作主語用主格，作賓語用賓格。這是英語語法的基本規(guī)則。

但是，當(dāng)人稱代詞處于一個并列結(jié)構(gòu)中時，的確有人突破上述規(guī)則。例如，在賓語區(qū)用主格，尤其是第一人稱單數(shù)代詞：

He says he saw John and I last night. （CGOEL）

It would be an opportunity for you and I to spend some time together.（CGEL）

Balthazar says that the natural traitors like you and I are really Caballi. （LGSWE）

Longman Grammar of Spoken and Written English認(rèn)為這是由于矯枉過正（hypercorrection）而在口語中偶爾發(fā)生的主格誤用。本人在《賓語位置的并列結(jié)構(gòu)用人稱代詞主格形式并不可取》一文中已有分析，恕不贅述。

另一種規(guī)則突破表現(xiàn)在你提到的主語區(qū)用人稱代詞賓格。例如：

Him and Ed stink, both of them. (LGSWE)

Tina and me sat by the window looking down on all the twinkling lights. (CGEL)

Me and the kids spent Sunday at the swimming pool.（PEU）

盡管這種現(xiàn)象在口語中的確存在，但學(xué)者們一致認(rèn)為這是非標(biāo)準(zhǔn)用法（nonstandard usage）。

The Cambridge Grammar of the English Language和A Comprehensive Grammar of The English Language均指出：類似Tina and me sat…或 Me and Mary are going…都是非標(biāo)準(zhǔn)用法而飽受指責(zé)。尤其是后者, 既突破了語法規(guī)則，同時還違反了“第一人稱應(yīng)出現(xiàn)在并列結(jié)構(gòu)末尾”的禮貌規(guī)則（the rule of politeness）。PEU對此的總結(jié)則是：限于在非常不正式的口語中。在筆語和正式的口語中這種用法是不正確的。（They are, however, restricted to a very informal style. They are not correct in formal speech or writing.）

這也就解釋了為什么在同聲傳譯中出現(xiàn)了 Me and my colleagues visited …。一是因為口譯本身具有口語性質(zhì)，表意的流暢和準(zhǔn)確是第一位的；二是同聲傳譯具有即時性特點。譯員口耳并用，難免無暇顧及語法細(xì)節(jié)，有時甚至出現(xiàn)信息漏譯的情況。例如，本次同聲傳譯將“國產(chǎn)大型水陸兩棲飛機水上首飛”譯為 our domestically-made large amphibious aircraft took to the skies for the first time，顯然沒有譯出“水上”兩字，造成表意失真。因為事實上，該型飛機的陸上首飛早在2017年12月就已經(jīng)完成。

考慮到同聲傳譯的工作特點和難度，出現(xiàn)的上述現(xiàn)象并不奇怪。而作為我國重要對外宣傳窗口的《中國日報》（China Daily）在其正式發(fā)布的英文譯稿中，Me and my colleagues已被改為 I and my colleagues；而our domestically-made large amphibious aircraft took to the skies for the first time也被糾正為our domestically-made large amphibious aircraft performed its first water launch。

由此可知，主語區(qū)用人稱代詞賓格不是規(guī)范用法，從語言教學(xué)的角度講尤其如此。
