All London was agog to see the two “parents”of radium. That set the whole town agog with excitement. The prospect of Christmas left the children agog. She arrived, agog, to discover what had prevented him being there. 二、agog 的搭配 1. all [有時more] agog。 The voters were all agog to see their new president. They were even more agog during the much publicized Banana Dance when she danced with only a curtain of bananas round her waist. 注:楊發河著《英語形容詞句型活用指南》(江西高校出版社1992年12月第1版)p16:agog前不用very,如不說very agog,而說much[very much] agog。 然而,在BNC(http://www.natcorp.ox.ac.uk)和BUY-BNC BRTISH NATIONAL CORPUS (UK,1980s-1993) (Mark Davies, Brigham Young University ) http://corpus.byu.edu/bnc/ 上共有25例包含 agog 的例句,竟無1例much[very much] agog; 在BYU: THE OXFORD ENGLISH DICTIONARY(http://corpus.byu/oed/)上共有29例包含 agog 的例句,竟無1例much[very much] agog; 在TIME CORPUS OF AMERICAN ENGLISH (1923-2006) (Mark Davies, Brigham Young University ) (http://corpus.byu.edu/time) 上共有111例包含 agog 的例句,竟無1例much[very much] agog; 在BUY CORPUS OF AMERICAN ENGLISH (1990-2008) (Mark Davies, Brigham Young University) http://www.americancorpus.org/上共有84例包含 agog 的例句,竟無1例much[very much] agog。 2. agog at sth.。 He was all agog at the surprise announcement. 3. agog for sth.。 The villagers were agog for the news. 4. agog with sth.。 The children were all agog with excitement at going to the seaside for summer holidays. 5. agog over sth.。 She was all agog over her new granddaughter. 6. agog about sth.。 In Britain commentators and policy makers are agog about a new U.S. doctrine, unveiled by President George W. Bush in a commencement address at West Point.
