不可以說feel badly about嗎？

周國珍主編《英語正誤詳解詞典》(復旦大學出版社 2000年10月第一版)p287：　　

【誤】He feels badly about the defeat.　　

【正】He feels bad about the defeat.　　

【譯文】他因失敗而感到不愉快。　　

【解釋】feel 在作“感覺，感到“解時，是聯系動詞，所以后接形容詞，表示感官上的感覺如何，而不是如何感覺，不能接副詞。如：I feel very comfortable in this chair. (坐在這張椅子上我感到非常舒服。) 而badly 修飾動詞時，只說明該動作進行得如何。如：work /sing badly (干活/唱歌很差勁。)　　

對于feel badly about的正確性有兩種解釋：一是認為這是約定俗成的慣用法，即已成“積非成是”的正確用法，趙振才教授在其編著的《英語常見問題解答大詞典》(黑龍江人民出版社1998年8月第1版)p167上就有這樣的說法：　　

【問】1988年攻讀碩士研究生入學考試英語試題(副題)中有這樣一道改錯題： 　　

The director felt badly about not giving Mary that position that she had sought with his company.　　

【答】出題者的意圖是：feel是個聯系動詞，應當用形容詞來作它的表語。用副詞來作表語是典型的錯誤。這一原則在一般下無疑是正確的。但是出題者忽略了約定俗成的慣用法。feel badly已成“積非成是”的正確用法。R. Quirk等人說，按照傳統語法，badly是不能跟smell 和feel連用的。但是，實際上，smell 和feel后面的副詞(有人把它看作是形容詞)可用來表示強烈的感情。　　

She felt bad/badly about it. (“guilty”、“ uneasy”)(CGEL)　　

I felt badly about your leaving so soon. (NAECD)　　

二是認為“feel badly about”中的badly是形容詞，而非副詞，陸谷孫教授在其主編的《英漢大詞典》(第2版) (上海譯文出版社2007年3月第1版)p129上就持這樣的看法: II. a. 2.遺憾的；后悔的；悲痛的：She felt badly about being late. 她因遲到感到難過。/ feel badly about a loss (another’s misfortune) 因受損失(他人的不幸)感到難過　　

筆者認為feel badly about是約定俗成的慣用法也好，“feel badly about”中的badly是形容詞也罷，歸根結底feel badly about是地地道道的正確用法，請看英美國家的原文例證：　　

1. 在BNC(英國國家語料庫http://www.natcorp.ox.ac.uk)和BUY-BNC BRTISH NATIONAL CORPUS (UK,1980s-1993) (Mark Davies, Brigham Young University ) http://corpus.byu.edu/bnc/上共有2例包含feel badly about的例證；1例包含felt badly about的例證；1例包含feels badly about的例證:　　

My fault and I feel badly about it.　　

When people fall short of their standards, and are thereby in breach of their injunctions, somewhere inside they start to feel badly about themselves, and to begin to doubt their worth and acceptability.　　

"I never felt badly about it," she says.　　

…, and I can understand why Clare feels badly about this tabloid television,….　　

2. 在TIME MAGAZINE CORPUS(1923-2006) (Mark Davies, Brigham Young University ) (http://corpus.byu.edu/time) 上共有6例 包含feel badly about 的例證；2例包含felt badly about的例證：　　

1939/01/29  I feel badly about that, but I feel much worse about the fate of those two boys…　　

1954/08/24  Mr. Carr told me a few days later that he didn’t think I should feel badly about the way I was put out of the car …　　

1962/09/21 …and I sort of feel badly about having to overcommit ourselves to these extraneous appearances.　　

1962/09/21  I don’t feel badly about harpooning someone on this because if they do it to me I’m going…　　

1928/06/11 Perhaps it was to prove that he really felt badly about it that Governor Richards last week gave the Ben Bess case a new twist…
