allow 與 permit 辨析

1. 兩者均可后接動(dòng)名詞作賓語(yǔ)，但不能用不定式。如：

The rules of the club do not permit smoking. 這個(gè)俱樂(lè)部規(guī)定不準(zhǔn)吸煙。

They shouldn’t allow parking here; the street is too narrow. 這兒不該允許停車，馬路太窄了。

我們不許在池子里游泳。

正：We don’t allow swimming in the pool.

誤：We don’t allow to swim in the pool.

但是，它們雖然不能直接跟不定式作賓語(yǔ)，但可跟不定式的復(fù)合結(jié)構(gòu)作賓語(yǔ)。如：

We don’t allow [permit] students to eat in the classrooms. 我們不允許學(xué)生在教室吃飯。

2. 兩者均可后接雙賓語(yǔ)。如：

We allow passengers one item of hand luggage each. 我們?cè)试S每個(gè)乘客帶一件手提行李。

As it was such a special occasion, she permitted herself a small glass of champagne. 由于那是一個(gè)很特別的場(chǎng)合，所以她。

3. 兩者均不能后接 that 引導(dǎo)的賓語(yǔ)從句。如：

我們不允許人們?cè)诖蠼淌页闊煛?/SPAN>

誤：We don’t all [permit] that people smoke in the lecture room.

正：We don’t allow [permit] people to smoke in the lecture room.

4. allow 與 allow 的幾點(diǎn)區(qū)別：

(1) permit 通常指上級(jí)、規(guī)則或法令等表示的準(zhǔn)許，其語(yǔ)氣較重；而 allow 通常指消極地不加反對(duì)，有時(shí)含有聽(tīng)任或默許之意，語(yǔ)氣較輕：The nurse allowed him to remain there，though it was not permitted. 護(hù)士讓他留在那兒，而按規(guī)定那是不許可的。

(2) permit 可用于帶形式主語(yǔ) it 的被動(dòng)結(jié)構(gòu)，但 allow 不行。如：

It is not permitted to smoke in the kitchen. 廚房?jī)?nèi)不準(zhǔn)吸煙。

(3) allow 可與狀語(yǔ)小品詞連用，但 permit 不行。如：

She wouldn’t allow me in. 她不讓我進(jìn)去。
