instead of用法說明

用于 instead of, 是復合介詞，除含有“代替”之意外，還含有否定概念“而不”的意思，其后通常接名詞或代詞。如：

I’ll have tea instead of coffee, please. 我要茶，不要咖啡。

Will you go to the meeting instead of me? 你代替我去開會好不好?

若后接動詞，通常用動名詞，不用不定式。如：

I stayed in bed all day instead of going to work. 我睡了一整天，沒有去上班。

You should be working instead of lying there in bed. 你應該工作而不該在床上躺著。

有時具有連詞的性質，可以連接兩個相同的語法結構。如：

He ran quickly instead of slowly. 他跑得快，不是跑得慢。

The situation is better instead of worse. 形勢是更好了，而不是更壞了。

That increased instead of decreased our courage. 那不但沒有減弱反而增強了我們的勇氣。

She asked me whether I wanted to cook instead of write. 她問我是不是想做飯而不想寫東西。

He went there to gain money instead of to spend money. 他到那兒去是為了賺錢而不是花錢的。

It will save time if you inform him by telephone instead of (by) post. 假如你打電話而不是寫信來通知他，你會節約更多時間。
