副詞how用法詳解

1. 在某些動詞（如show, discover, see, explain, find out等）之后不宜直接跟不定式，但可跟“疑問詞+不定式”，在這類結構中，不要忘記必要的 how（因為 how 在漢語中往往譯不出）。如：

你能說明一下蛋糕的作法嗎?

誤：Can you explain to make a cake?

正：Can you explain how to make a cake?

2. 通常不能用作關系副詞，所以不能引導定語從句：

那就是他跟他父母說話的樣子。

誤：That’s the way how he speaks to his parents.

正：That’s how he speaks to his parents.

正：That’s the way (that) he speaks to his parents.

正：That’s the way (in which) he speaks to his parents.

3. how far與how long用法不同：前者用來問距離的遠近，而后者用來問時間的長短或物體的長度。如：

How far did you drive today? 今天你開車開了多遠?

How long shall we stay there? 我們在那兒要待多久?

How long is this pool? 這個水塘有多長?

4. how many與how much用法不同：兩者均表示“多少”，how many之后接可數名詞復數，而how much之后接不可數名詞或不接詞。如：

How many tenses are there in English? 英語有多少種時態?

How much baggage do you have? 你有多少行李?

How much is four times five? 4乘以5等于多少?

另外，how much 還可用來詢問價錢：How much is the coat? 這件上衣多少錢?

5. 比較how long, how often, how soon：

(1) how long指多長時間，用來對一段時間（如two days, four weeks等）提問。如：

A：How long did he live here? 他在這兒住了多久?

B：About five years. 大約5年。

(2) how often指每隔多久，用來對頻度副詞或狀語（如once a week, three times a month等）提問。如：

A：How often does he come here? 他（每隔）多久來一次?

B：Once a month. 每月一次。

(3) how soon指再過多久，用來對表示將來的一段時間提問（如in an hour, in two weeks等）提問。如：

A：How soon will he be back? 他要多久才回來?

B：In an hour. 1個小時以后。
